Community Resilience in Emergencies

Date: 2020

Client: Nesta (UK)

Category: Institutional Commission

A design commission for Nesta exploring how UK communities might respond to future emergencies. Conceived and directed the process, commissioning five UK community designers — Tom James, Alicja Halbryt, Dr Austin Houldsworth, Hefin Jones, and Christopher Lopez — to each produce a speculative artefact grounded in a different emergency-resilience scenario, and a toolkit to run the process with local civil society. The five pieces were developed for exploration by UK statutory bodies, local councils, and civil society organisations, rather than public exhibition. Published by Nesta, March 2020, as part of a sustained multi-year working relationship with the organisation.
